delARTe presents:
Japanese Prints at the Legion in SF 2024 - some impressions::
Photographs and Artwork by Herb RanhARTer
The show opens with Schunga, a functionalst's erotica that aren't erotic at all.
A bit repugnant by all accounts. Something like Trump having it off with Stormy Daniels.
No smiles, no soul, no tenderness, fear and resentment.
Pull tabs on a "flip book."
The show is very much a history oriented exhibit,
see the bottom line link on this page for details.
My impressions are those an artist might, and did, walk away with.
My interests tend to focus more on concepts, details and aesthetics:
Chocolate Chip icecream.
Much of the show has to do with the history of Japan
and how it dealt with cooming to grips with the influence
of outside culture, mostly western culture.
